How to Keep the Kids Entertained in the Holidays

For any young children out there, the summer holidays are an exciting opportunity to have fun and enjoy the time out of school.

For parents, it’s also an excellent chance to spend time together as a family and maybe even enjoy a bit of sunshine. With so much free time, it can be tough figuring out what to do and finding activities that are cheap and entertaining for all.

If you’re after some ideas for keeping the kids entertained this summer, take a read of our suggestions and see if any pique your interest!

Explore The Country

Living in the UK means that it’s relatively easy to travel around and set off on an adventure.

Hop on a bus or train and go somewhere new. It doesn’t even have to be a week-long holiday! Depending where you live, you can be in places like Blackpool, Manchester, or London within a few short hours.

If the weather’s nice, it’s an extra excuse to enjoy the sunshine whilst treating the whole family to an ice cream in a new location at the same time.

Get Green-Thumbed

Another way of getting the family together is to enjoy the weather from the comfort of your own home!

It just so happens that the summer months are also the optimum time for many plants, so it’s the perfect opportunity to get growing. Visit a garden centre and let your children pick a plant or vegetable they want to grow – whether it’s a sunflower, tomato plant, or green beans.

It’s a great way of teaching your children about responsibility and they will be able to see the progress they make as the plants grow throughout the holidays.

Enjoy an Attraction

Who doesn’t love a good attraction? Expect attractions up and down the country to be holding special events and exhibitions just for the summer holidays. It’s the perfect chance to explore whilst perhaps learning something new at the same time.

Whether it’s a museum, theme park, castle, or landmark, there’s plenty to see and visit that the whole family can enjoy.

Take in the fun and excitement of a festival with Madame Tussauds Blackpool’s Festival Fields exhibition, where you and your family can see the likes of Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, and Calvin Harris up-close without worrying about muddy boots and queues for the portaloos.

Just Whistle Whilst You Work

Nobody really wants to do chores around the house, especially during the summer holidays but it’s the perfect opportunity to tidy up and start afresh.

During term time, we can often put things like housekeeping to the back of our minds. Get the whole family involved and reward the kids with trips out afterwards as an incentive to get things tidy!

It may not be the most exciting aspect of the summer holidays, but by treating the kids for tidying up, it becomes worthwhile.

Life’s a Beach

Weather depending, a day out at the beach is an experience like no other – it can also be pretty cheap too!

The UK has some of the best beaches in the world, including Blackpool, Weymouth, Woolacombe, and Watergate Bay. Grab your picnic basket, swim shorts, goggles, and a bucket and spade, and head to the beach. The battle for the ultimate sandcastle is on!

How Will You Spend the Summer?

With plenty to visit, see, and do, the biggest decision you’ll have to make is what you’ll be spending your time doing!

If you are planning a day out in Blackpool, take advantage of The Blackpool Big Ticket which will allow you entry to  seven attractions, including Madame Tussauds Blackpool, SEA LIFE Blackpool, and The Blackpool Tower, all for one fantastic price.
