Blenheim Palace's Gloriumptious Role in Disney's New BFG Film
Blenheim Palace has a whoopsy-splunkers starring role in Disney’s new BFG film which opened at cinemas across the UK on 22 July.
The live-action film, which is co-produced by Steven Spielberg, is based on Roald Dahl’s bestselling children’s book telling the story of 10-year-old orphan Sophie’s encounter with the Big Friendly Giant.
Scenes were filmed at the Oxfordshire stately home including a scene featuring the BFG and Beefeaters in the Italian Garden and shots from the Tower Bedroom looking out onto the grounds.
The BFG is just the latest in a series of blockbuster films which have used the Palace as a location.
Previous productions filmed there include Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Gulliver’s Travels and Young Victoria.
Other films featuring the birthplace of Winston Churchill include James Bond’s ‘Spectre’, Mission Impossible’s Rogue Nation, the Disney feature Cinderella and A Little Chaos.
Visitors can follow in the footsteps of their favourite movies, actors and stories and discover more throughout the Palace, Park & Gardens with a dedicated trail and interactive map available which can be downloaded from the Blenheim Palace website.
