Established while the First World War was still being fought people have entrusted IWM with their stories of war in the knowledge that we will continue to share these stories with future generations.
At IWM North explore the conflicts that Britain and the Commonwealth have been involved in since the First World War to the current day through a timeline of objects that have borne witness to historic events. Housed in an iconic aluminium clad building, representing a globe shattered by conflict – IWM North is the first museum in the UK to be designed by internationally acclaimed architect Daniel Libeskind. In a powerful and poignant 360° cinematic experience you will be immersed in a collection of extraordinary personal stories of life on the home and fighting fronts, and hear how war shapes lives of ordinary people. The permanent and temporary exhibitions uncover themes of modern conflict through art, photography and interactive displays.
